In our Republic, Government is the system chartered by We the People through State and United States Constitutions to defend our Union under assault from civic illiteracy. Those who fear and distrust the people. Those who identify with the people, and consider them as the most honest and safe depository of the public trust. It is a kind of law of nature that everyone prospers by the prosperity of others." Thomas Jefferson: "From the conclusion of this Revolutionary War we shall be going downhill. It will not be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves but in the sole faculty of making money, and we will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion." Benjamin Harvey Hill: "Who saves his country saves himself saves all things, and all things saved do bless him. Who lets his country die lets all things die. Dies himself ignobly and all things dying curse him." Vernon Jones: "When you see a good fight, get in it!"
